REEVE'S WALNUT WHIPPETS FIND THE RIGHT COMBINATIONS TO TROUNCE DAVIDSON'S PAIRS IN A RAIN SOAKED TANGLWYST CUP
The 2017 Tanglwyst Cup took place over 19 - 21 October in Liverpool. All eyes were glued to the weather forecast both before and during the matches with Storm Brian fast approaching and due to make landfall during round 3. After the best set of opening tee shots ever seen on day 1 of Tanglwyst, it was The Walnut Whippets who came out of the blocks quickest with all three teams up on their opponents within the first 2 holes. It would remain that way for most of the day until a courageous fightback from the 6&4s opening pair, 4 down with 6 to play, earned a halve after a tense finale. Trailing 2.5 - 0.5 after day 1, it was paramount for the 6&4s to win day 2 and the signs were positive with all three pairs taking early leads in their matches. However, the Whippets flexed their muscle around the turn - spearheaded by the relentless Robinson/Stoker partnership - to eventually win all three matches and leave the 2017 Tanglwyst Cup all but over after only two days. The weather forecast made for grim reading on the morning of day 3 and it would ultimately force 4 of the 6 matches to end in gentlemanly halves due to the course becoming unplayable early on during the back nine. Two matches were concluded just in time however, with one victory for the 6&4s - their only victory of the week - and one victory for the Walnut Whippets that gave them the 6.5 points needed to claim the Cup.
